some kind of MOVIE!

we shot some footage on our not so good digital camera. I put it together as quickly as I could, yes the editing is not so good but i think it does the job. Plus I am too tired to really worry about it.

total domination...

the numbers are all high...
- amount of ImagOn (300 sq ft.)
- transparency film (400 sq ft.)
- plastic (320 sq ft)
- ink (5 oz)
- paper (28 sheets of 48"x32" 336 sq ft)
- work time (165 man hours over 5 days)
- 2 haine's pocket T's
- 8 taco bell quesadilla's
....everything is up there. This was an amazing week and i can't believe I was able to print 44 2'x3' plates (9 images total, thats one more than i did for my thesis show!) and pull off back to back 15 hour days. The work came out great and I now have a new slogan "Justin Myer Staller is gallery ready in under 1 week." I want to thank Daniel Danger for helping all week with every aspect of this project, i of course owe him. I also want to thank my wife and cats for letting me leave them for a week to make art, they are the best family ever. I want to thank everyone at RIT, especially Keith Howard and Danielle Johns for all of there help facilitating this project. We made some videos of the printing of 'Candle Light" that we are going to try an edit....keep checking back.

"devon' finished....

Well we are coming down to the wire....One print left to proof and one order to fill, time is running out for those of you interested in purchasing this weekend. Please feel free to call or email.

a little thanks for danielle...

Danielle has been helping me out all week so I let her choose a print, she choose the right half of 5/10, a fine choice. here we are inking the plates and opening a bank or closing a joint summit meeting.

"Candlelight"

The latest of the press and the second print pulled this morning. This image came out super crisp, almost wet looking with tons of detail in the foreground from the vines.

tomorrow...

please note that these are sketches and some massive color correcting has been applied but my computer won't seem to let me post those so i am posting these.

sofija....

"sofija" is finished and so am I. I need some sleep, we are getting a little delerious over here, For a moment it looked like someone took over dan's brain, like in being john malkovich. Anyway we are back at it again tomorrow. Please do me a favor and let us know in the morning if you want to purchase anything so we can plan our printing schedule around it. It takes almost an hour to print each image so you need to give us some time. Please also remember that the prices for these images will rise once I leave RIT which is tomorrow night. Thanks again, please feel free to call or email with any questions....

"111 davis" finished

well it's midnight and we have one more print to do this evening before getting some sleep. We just completed the proofing of "111 davis' and it came out great, is sorta has the safe feel as 'last gas", with the snow and blue tinge. I would also like to mention red lobster shrimp scampi sitting on top of Indian buffet in your stomach is ruff.

coming up later tonight...

we are going to pull three more on saturday...will post those later.

"111 davis" Right half...

we just finished proofing the right side of the next diptych "111 Davis" and are ready to head out and get some diner. When we get back we are going to finish the other side of this print and one more single image. i am thinking red lobster?
cheddar biscuts?....

"gashouse"

"gashouse" is finished, we are sleepy and it's hard to keep our heads up yet alone make sweet huge cmyk prints.
One more diptych and one more single to go today...

"5/10"

Here is the finished print "5/10" as close to put together as I can do. We took it out on the roof for better lighting. The day has begun feel free to call or email with questions.

tired...

i spent the rest of the day preparing my lecture for tomorrow and getting all of the half tones printed and off the 7600 while it was working okay. more prints tomorrow, promise...plus a shower and clean clothes...

left side of "5/10"

this is the first diptych coming off he press. The next side is coming as soon as I can muster up some energy to get out of this chair...i'm achy

"greenfield"

Cameout pretty darn well, the second print pulled this week. Thanks to Danielle Johns (R)( go see her work at www.myspace.com/dani_j24) and Jessica Foley (L) for all of there help inking plates.

greenfield, next one on the list...

'Greenfield' a 2x3, same size as cost as the devon print, will start proofing soon...

now accepting orders...

Devon, a 2'x3' image size on 48"x32" hammermule copper plate, bright white edition of 10 for $300 while we are in the shop, $350 when I get home (the price change reflects the cost of the press i will have to rent to finish the printing) Please call if your interested tonight or tomorrow as we will be soon kicking it up a notch.

in the mean time....

I re shot the yellow and cyan plate from the devon print that we proofed yesterday. The yellow had started to open bite and the cyan plate was too faint. So the yellow plate was developed for 7 min instead of 9, insuring that full areas would hold and then the cyan plate was exposed at 18.5 instead of 20LU and over developed for 10 minutes to bring out more information.

bleep blop

another day fighting with 7600...tech support is on it, then we ran out cyan ink, which we don't need to print but needs to be in the printer for it to work. so basically we are getting a head clog that won't go away, but even more frustrating is inconsist and making our problem solving methods futile.

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

the print, devan...

just like to note that the cyan plate was over wiped which adds to the yellow color cast...i am a little rusty but getting back in the swing of things...it feels good to pull a print again....any interest please feel fee to email or call, dan and I are going to Olive Garden for a well deserved break...thanks

printing...

you can see the yellow full plate after printing, me registering the magenta plate and running it through the press....

inking the plates....

the plates are inked with Akua brand intaglio inks, a water based ink that requires no solvents for clean up. After the plates is inked up we take cheese cloth material and wipe away excess ink.
